Traditions

Egmont Kollegiet has many traditions that vary depending on the kitchen.

Dinner clubs

Each kitchen hosts dinner club every evening from Sunday to Thursday. This means that each resident hosts a dinner club about once a month.

Marathon Café

In February, the Marathon Café is held, where the dormitory café stays open for 48 hours straight. From Friday at 3 PM to Sunday at 3 PM, all kitchens compete in various games and competitions. At the end, the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places are awarded.

Festival

In August, Egmont hosts its own festival, with the festival committee organizing three days of events and music.

Birthdays

When someone in the hallway has a birthday, they are woken up with a birthday song by the floor members. The birthday person's neighbors prepare breakfast for everyone who joins the celebration.

Ladies' and men's Day

Once every six months, the ladies gather for Ladies' Day and the men for Men's Day. Residents organize various activities and events to bond the ladies and gentlemen together. Some kitchens have turned it into a shared day for everyone.

Hallway-trips

1-2 times a year, two people from the kitchen organize a trip for the entire kitchen. Usually, the destination is kept secret from the others for as long as possible - sometimes until the kitchen arrives at the airport.

Hallway tour de chambre

Once every six months, a tour de chambre is planned for each kitchen. The organizers choose an overall theme, and each room decorates according to a sub-theme.

Ball

In April, the events committee hosts a ball for the entire dormitory, where residents can sign up for a large common dinner in the banquet hall. The warden also participates. A Statistics Show is held, where the kitchens win various titles.

New Year's Eve

On New Year's Eve, the events committee organizes a huge party. The entire dormitory and the residents' friends are invited. Each kitchen has a large dinner together. After midnight, the banquet hall is opened.

Midsummer's Eve

In June, the events committee hosts a party with a midsummer bonfire and communal dining in the garden for the entire dormitory.

Giraffe Party

To welcome new residents, a “giraffe party” is held once every six months. Here, all new residents are invited to communal dining, games, and festivities.

Ordning

A “ordning” is a custom that dates back to when Egmont became a dormitory. There are many forms of ordning, but if you create one, you usually have to buy a refreshing drink for everyone present.

Christmas Lunch

In December, each kitchen hosts a Christmas lunch, which often ends with a long human chain singing throughout the dormitory.

Hallway Meetings

Once a month, each kitchen hosts a hallway meeting where residents are informed about news in the dormitory. There is also an opportunity to discuss various internal kitchen matters.

Headlines

Each resident has either a cabinet or a drawer in the kitchen, often adorned with various newspaper headlines assigned by the other residents.

Shrovetide

In February, the events committee holds a Shrovetide party, where there is a traditional barrel-beating game. There are prizes for the Cat Queen and Cat King, as well as for the best costume.

There is also a Shrovetide tradition where the men in the hallway wake the ladies with song and breakfast.

Lucia

It is a tradition that the ladies on the hallway wake the gentlemen with a Lucia procession and song, as well as breakfast in the kitchen.

Friends' Party

To raise money for the kitchen, most kitchens hosts a friends' party with games and festivities in the common room.

Kitchen Cleaning

Residents take turns cleaning the kitchen every evening.

Semester Cleaning

Once every six months, each hallway gathers for a thorough deep cleaning of the kitchen.
